Imagine you have something really important to do...
but you can't do it until you download a file, or download a programme, update an app, or update your operating system...

Using the concept of 'the download' to guide a group meditation, Phantom Limb was a performance based on the desire to create a communal bodily experience around an immaterial force. The irregularity of time, manipulated by the progress bar, the digital materialization represented by the download, and the inter-dependance of the so-called immaterial and the bodily, were the starting point for the work. The introductory text, read off Josée's phone during the inflation of the air bed, served as a meditative set-up for the communal act of the download embodied by the song. The performance employed music as a unifying device and a 'subliminal' method of presenting the text. The lyrics of the song addressed the often overlooked physical and emotional power of digital technologies over our bodies.
